Tsangano turn off is one of the popular places along the M1 road passing through Ntcheu to and from Blantyre to Lilongwe.
As we pass this place we mistake this place for Tsangano trading centre , whereas it is just a turn off to Tsangano also known as Ngoni which is located 75km away from Tsangano turn-off. It is at Tsangano Trading Centre where a police unit is.
Avantmalawi visited Tsangano Ngoni police unit Surprisingly, the place is a deserted place which leaves a normal human being with questions.
The building of the Said police unit is in dilapidated state, where only two police officers are domiciled at.
Avant reporters took some pictures and managed to hold an interview with inspector Kayuni. Inspector Kayuni clarified that the building was not constructed by the government. It is rather a rented apartment from the council with only two rooms.
A visit at Tsangano police unit leaves anyone with alot of questions. Most services or cases are referred to Ntcheu police station since there is a small space to keep suspects waiting for trial or bail. During our visit we noticed many people outside waiting to be assisted by the two busy police officer. In there office the don’t have material to use like writting statement. This means they don’t write a police statement because they don’t have materials.

“Efforts have been made requesting relevant authorities to assist us with a standard building to maximise security at Tsangano but all our efforts are rendered unfruitful. ” said inspector kayuni.
Avantmalawi is urging the government through ministry of defence and Homeland Security to assist in building a standard police unit or Renovate the one in operation. The police unit is in the boundaries of malawi and Mozambique where more security is needed.
