Labour Minister Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba has authorized the reopening of Top Max Malata, a company previously closed on January 16, 2025, over concerns about workers’ welfare.
The decision follows notable improvements made by the company, including offering permanent employment contracts to workers and constructing toilets for labourers.
During an inspection, Engineer Mumba commended the company’s progress, stating that their compliance reflects a commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights and fostering a better working environment.

However, the Ministry of Labour has given Top Max Malata a seven-day deadline to finalize any remaining improvements.
Gift Trapence, Chairperson of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition, has praised the government’s dedication to addressing labour rights and advancing worker welfare in Malawi.
