Police in Kawale, Lilongwe have taken into its custody three individuals for possessing and manufacturing counterfeit beer.
The suspects identified as, Frank Tengeretu,37, Abdul Ali 33, and Idrisa Juma 21.
After an influx of complaints from imbibers within Chiuzila, Area 44, Tambalale, Area 23 and Kawale over strange spirits that carries brands of notable spirits, Detectives launched investigations to uncover the same.
During the operation, police detectives arrested Idrisa Juma for possessing counterfeit beer in his liquor shop with Konyagi brands.
His confession led to the arrest of other two suspects and further stump out their industrial site in Area 44 where the brewing of the spirit and production of fake stickers of Konyagi, Sun Gin, and Nyasaland Gin was taking place.
Police have since seized the fake spirits and their equipment used in producing fake stickers for further analysis.
Frank Tengeretu hails from Mtengooyera Village, Traditional Authority Mazengera in Lilongwe, Abdul Ali hails from Mwangata Village Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba, and Idrisa Juma comes from Mponda Village Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi District.
