Three die in Chikwawa road accident

Three people, who include a man and his wife and a minibus driver, have died after being involved in a road accident in Chikwawa District.

The accident, which involved a minibus and a motorcycle, happened on 18 April,2022 at around 19:00 at Kulima Village near Crown Plantation in Ngabu along Blantyre-Chikwawa M1 road.

The minibus, registration number BX 8070 Toyota Hiace, was being driven by 32-year old Mavuto Justin,(deceased) of Ngalu Village Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa District, and was coming from Nchalo heading to Ngabu with 10 passengers on board.

On arrival at the said place the minibus was overtaking a motor vehicle when it  collided head-on with a Yamaha AG 200 motorcycle, registration number CK 1388, which was coming from the opposite direction.

Following the crash, the motorbike riders,  who were husband and wife only identified as Isaac Chimunthu Banda, 45, and Memory Kabango Chimunthu Banda from Nkhotakota District,  sustained multiple head injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Ngabu Rural Hospital.

The driver, who sustained a jaw fracture,  died later while receiving treatment at Chikwawa District Hospital.

The ten passengers escaped with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, Police in the district have warned drivers  to observe speed limit and avoid careless driving to avoid road accident.
