Thomas Makiwa’s appointment as Auditor General has been officially ratified by Parliament, a mere 14 hours after President Lazarus Chakwera designated him for the position. Makiwa, a former employee of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, gained resounding support from Members of Parliament, as well as the Public Appointments committee, solidifying his confirmation.
Minister of Finance Sostein Gwengwe presented the motion for Parliament to affirm Makiwa’s appointment, backed by a consensus acknowledging his fulfillment of all prerequisites and extensive experience suitable for the role.
Holding a background in Accounting and Audit, Makiwa has been fulfilling the duties of Auditor General on an interim basis over the last 5 years.
