Efforts are in full swing as the long-awaited reconstruction of the Salima-Nkhotakota M5 Road gains momentum, with contractors working tirelessly to ensure the completion of bridges before the onset of the rainy season.
Funded by the Malawi Government at a cost of MK37 billion, the ambitious 2-year project is entrusted to China Railway 20 (CR20) Contractors and is scheduled for finalization in November 2024.
Salima District Commissioner, James Mwenda, has expressed contentment with the ongoing initial construction phase, encompassing the 60km span from Kaphatenga to Benga. Upon completion, the project is poised to enhance transportation infrastructure and ignite economic growth in both districts.
Mwenda further underscored the project’s positive impact on local communities, as residents from both districts secure employment opportunities through their involvement in the project.
