SALIMA DISTRICT COUNCIL DSCOOPS SECOND POSITION IN LAPA

Salima District Council has been described as the most improved Council in the 2021/2022 Local Authorities Performance Assessment (LAPA) results presentation after scooping second place with a score of 82 percent.

The official announcement of the 2021/22 Local Authorities Performance Assessment (LAPA) results and presentation of cheques to District Councils that have qualified for the Performance Based Grants (PBG) was presided over by the Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Honourable Richard Chimwendo Banda.

Speaking in Salima District Chimwendo Banda said Salima District Council managed to implement a flagship project, by constructing a maternity hospital, at Mnema in the area of Senior Chief Makanjira using the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) funds a development that made them score high in the performance Measures (PM).

“I would wish to congratulate District Councils that have done well because it shoes how committed they are to develop the people they serve in there respective districts” he said.

Chimwendo Banda hailed Mulanje District Council for maintaining the first position of best performing District Council.

District Commissioner for Salima District Council Grace Chirwa Kanyimbiri could not hold her joy by describing the award as a motivation to aim for first position.

She said the unity and good coordination between officials from the district council played a big role in ensuring that they manage to do proper documentation of all necessary details concerning implementation of GESD projects.

For scooping second position Salima District Council has been awarded MK711,642,911 in the 2021/2022 Performance Based Grant to be used for implementing of development projects.
