At least 20 Malawian returnees from South Africa are feared to have escaped from a quarantine facility at Mapanga in Blantyre following riots that ensued yesterday.
Commotion ensued at the facility after the returnees went on rampage demanding their passports back and instant release to their respective homes.
The uncompromising group burnt a guard room, beds and mattresses at the facility as well as smashing several vehicles on the Limbe-Zomba road.

But Prison Spokesperson Chimwemwe Shawa has told the state controlled MBC that none of the returnees has bolted during the violent incident.
Details also emerge that the police have also made several arrests following the incident.
At least 518 returnees have been quarantined at Mapanga Prison Training College since Friday for Covid testing before being released to their respective homes.
