A 43-year-old prison officer has died in a road accident after a motor vehicle he was driving in overturned several times.
The deceased has been identified as Lodwell Mpangaza of Kangona Village in the area of Traditional Authority Khombedza in Salima, who was the Officer In-charge for Bzyanzi Prison in Dowa District.
The accident, which happened on Thursday night, April 29, 2021 at Senga Village along Dowa Turn Off-Dzaleka Camp M7 Road, involved a prison motor vehicle registration number PS 84 Nissan Hard Body Pick-up one toner, driven by prison officer Inspector Lodwell Mpangaza (now deceased).
Traffic police report indicates that the deceased, prison officer Inspector Lodwell Mpangadza was driving an official motor vehicle registration number PS 84 Nissan Hard Body from the direction of Dowa Turn Off heading Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
Upon arrival at Senga Village, he lost control of the motor vehicle as he was negotiating a right curve then the motor vehicle swerved to the left dirty verge where it hit a tree and overturned several times and lest in the drain about 100 metres from the road.
Due to the impact, the driver (prison officer) was thrown out of the motor vehicle and sustained severe head injuries and was taken to Dowa District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival while the motor vehicle got extensively damaged.//END//
