Excommunicated member of parliament for Nkhata-bay Central Constituency Symon Vuwa Kaunda has sued Malawi government at the African Court over the decision of Supreme Court in nullifying him as a legitimate legislator.
Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal reversed the decision of the High Court which ruled in favour of Kaunda.
Kaunda claims he won the 2019 parliamentary elections fair and square.
But seven Supreme Court of Appeal Judges who presided over the case nullified Kaunda’s victory citing massive irregularities that marred the results which included the use of infamous correction fluid tippex on the results sheets.
Meanwhile Malawi Electoral Commission will hold the fresh elections in Nkhata-bay Central on June 29 this year.
It is not clear whether MEC will postpone the fresh Nkhata-bay Central parliamentary election or not over Kaunda’s move.
Last Sunday Tonse alliance partners launched the campaign in the Constituency in solidarity of Ralph Mhone of people’s party who fought Kaunda’s victory.
Last year on 3rd February the Supreme Court of Malawi upheld the constitutional court ruling by nullifying the presidential election results which sent DPP’s Mutharika packing.
