PRESIDENT LUNGU PLEDGES PEACEFUL TRANSITION OF POWER

Outgoing Republican President, Edgar Lungu has conceded defeat and congratulated incoming President Hakainde Hichilema over his victory in the 12th August, 2021 polls.
In a national address Mr. Lungu has affirmed to a peaceful transition of power.

The outgoing President has also thanked Zambians for giving him an opportunity to serve the country from 2015 to 2021.

He says he may have faced challenges along the way but the support from Zambians made things to seem easy.
In the early hours of Monday, the Electoral Commission of Zambia declared President Hakainde Hichilema as duly elected 7th Republican President after polling 2,810,757 votes against 1, 814, 204 for the incumbent President Edgar Lungu.

On Sunday President Lungu declared the elections to not having been free and fair citing acts of violence in Southern, Western and North Western Provinces.
16 Presidential candidates stood in the elections.
