Malawi is in mourning following the passing of John Zenus Ungapake Tembo, a distinguished figure in the nation’s political landscape. The former President and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader, Peter Mutharika, paid tribute to Tembo, describing him as a statesman who played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s development.
Tembo’s legacy extends far beyond his political affiliations, as he was recognized for his contributions to Malawi’s progress in various capacities. Dr. George Chaponda, a senior official within the DPP, revealed that the former Malawi leader collaborated with Tembo on numerous projects that aimed to improve the nation’s well-being.
At the age of 91, John Tembo succumbed to diabetes at the Lilongwe Private Clinic, leaving behind a profound void in the political landscape. He was not only a former Dedza West Parliamentarian but also held the esteemed positions of Leader of the Opposition and President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
