KHUMBANYIWA MAINTAINS SEAT IN CHIKWAWA EAST

Malawi Electoral Commission declared Rodrick Khumbanyiwa of United Democratic front winner in the parliamentary by-elections in Chikwawa East where he maintained his seat with 7,584 votes. Khumbanyiwa proved legitimate law maker who battled out in the high court after his Opponents sued him with rigging claims over the 2019 tripartite elections.

His main rival Ginford Maulidi of DPP polled 5,065 votes followed by Foster Thipiwa of MCP with 4,612 votes.

Fyson Mainjeni of UTM amassed 154 votes, Phoebe Mtembenuzeni Independent received 130 votes and Rosemary Kalidozo Independent grossed 99 votes.

Valid votes numbered 17,644. Null and void votes tallied 323.

A total of 17,967 votes were cast in the by-election.

The by-election in this Constituency follows the nullification of the May 20, 2019 results by the High Court after some aspiring candidates went to challenge the results in Court.

Meanwhile, the United Democratic front has vowed to support it’s candidate in as far as Development is concerned in the said constituency
