Hara, Chinsinga appointed ministers

Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed two new ministers to fill two vacancies in the cabinet created in January.

According to the statement announced by Malawian Secretary to the President and Cabinet Zangazanga Chikhosi Monday evening, Chakwera has appointed a legislator for the governing Malawi Congress Party, Jacob Hara, as minister of transport and public works, and a professor at the University of Malawi, Blessings Chinsinga, as minister of local government.

The two replaced Sidik Mia and Lingson Belekanyama who succumbed to COVID-19 in January this year

Meanwhile, social media platforms are awash with congratulatory messages to the two ministers. Whereas a some people have discredited the appointment of Hara as ministers since he is a dedicated Christian of Assemblies of God, a church which president Chakwera worships

BIOGRAPHY OF PROFESSOR BLESSINGS CHINSINGA

He is youthful active politician born in 1973, Blessings Chinsinga studied at Chancellor college University in 1995 where he was awarded a Degree in Public Administration with distinction.

Just after he completed this level of his education Chinsinga was employed as a staff associate in 1996. He then furthered his education in 1998 and obtained a Masters Degree at Cambridge University in United Kingdom.

He was offered a full lecturer post at Chancellor college. In 2002 he obtained a PHD in Germany and was promoted to senior lecture then associate Professor respectively.

Blessings Chinsinga, as the new minister of local government

He has been a deputy director for social research at Chancellor college, where among others he published journals, conference papers and books.

During Bingu wa munthalika regime Blessings Chinsinga was put behind bars on account of reading protests against the seating president. This was the time where fuel shortage was rampant and he gave an example in his lecture that people may protest due to lack of fuel. His example was not just an example to the spies of that regime who to it to the authorities and he was interrogated.

During this time Blessings Chinsinga was fired among others like Jessie Kabwila (president of staff union then), Garton Kamchezera and H kanyongolo. This fuelled protests in academic freedom for 6 months and the high Court ruled that they were to be reinstated.
