Former Minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe has died aged 87, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) announced on its online platforms Tuesday night.
Gondwe served as a Cabinet Minister during the DPP administration both under late President Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika and immediate past President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
The University of London graduate held several local and international portfolios. Such include Acting President for the African Development Bank (ADB), Senior Advisor to the Managing Director for the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Minister of Local Government and Chief Economic Advisor to former Malawi leader Dr Bakili Muluzi.
His track record shows that in 2008, Gondwe was voted Africa’s Finance Minister of the Year at the African Banker Awards held in Washington DC, USA
Until his death, he was DPP’s Vice President for the Northern Region.
He hailed from Kayiwonanga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba.
