CYBERCRIME CASE SHIFTED TO DECEMBER

The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Blantyre has today failed to continue hearing a case involving a police officer and three others who are answering charges bordering on cybercrimes-related crimes-related charges.

When the court reconvened on Wednesday, State Prosecutor, Damiano Kaputa, asked the court for more time to allow authorities at the CyberCrimes Investigations Unit at Police Headquarters to conclude their investigations in the case.

Mercy Chiligo, Chipiliro Kalima, Symon Kaphale and police officer Susan Kachinga Chinjati are accused of circulating a Voice Note (VN) on social media maliciously damaging names of other people they allege have a hand in the murder case of Allan Witika who was the Marketing Manager at the CocaCola Beverage Company.

The offence is contrary to Section 86 of the Electronic Transactions and CyberSecurity Act.

Chief Resident Magistrate, Chisomo Msokera, has adjourned hearing of the case to 8 December 2023.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Police Service (MPS) has interdicted Susan Kachinga Chinjati. This is contained in a wireless message from the office of the Inspector General (IG) of Police.
