President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has reaffirmed his commitment to ensure food security and creation of jobs and wealth in the country as he promised.
He said this at Capital Hill in Lilongwe as he launched Presidential Delivery Labs which he said will accelerate implementation of key promises he and his vice made.
The President announced that he has appointed Ms Colleen Zamba to lead a team of professionals which is mandated to work with Public Sector Reforms (PSR) Committee and engage with government controlling officers such as Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure smooth implementation of the promises.
“The Presidential Delivery Unit is a special room in my office with a team of professionals working around the clock to ensure that the key priorities that Dr. Chilima and I promised to deliver for Malawians are being implemented by the MDAs that have the mandate and responsibility to do so.” He said.
Chakwera further stressed the need for combined efforts to successfully deliver to Malawians.
He added that “not only must each part do its job without fail, but all the parts need to work together to ensure delivery is accomplished. The Delivery Lab is precisely the place where working together to deliver the goods will be the focus. So if you are a Minister, or Principal Secretary, or a Director, and the Head of the PDU calls you into the lab, it means I myself have called you in to work with my office on delivering something to Malawians”
The team will conduct its first assignment for four weeks in which it will be meeting with senior officials from different MDAs.
Speaking earlier, the vice president Dr Saulos Chilima said the Presidential Delivery Labs are crucial in the successful implementation of key promises which are a hub of this country’s development. He assured Malawians that his Public Sector Reforms department is committed to offer necessary support to the team set by president Chakwera.
During the labs, PDU and the PSR will be working as equal partners, thus while the Public Sector Reforms
focus on ensuring that all government ministries and Agencies are functioning
efficiently, the Presidential Delivery Unit, will be identifying those government ministries and Agencies which are responsible for implementing the key
priorities of the Chakwera Administration and ensure that those priorities are being delivered on time.
