AUGUST HOUSE EYES FOR PENSION ACT

The lawmakers continue speaking in support of the motion to review the Pensions Act
to allow pensioners receive their money immediately after retirement other than waiting until one reaches 60 years of age.

Leader of the House, Richard Chimwendo Banda, says he 100% supports the motion to bring the bill into the house.

He says the process to pass the bill will include consultation with various stakeholders including Malawi Congress of Trade Union and Economics Association of Malawi.

He wonders why pensioners are denied to access their own pension funds through a loan at lower interests rates.

Thyolo Central legislator, Ben Phiri, says the pensioners should be getting their pension money to enable them inject into the economy through investments and increase the tax base.
