Police in Zomba have arrested 5 people allegedly connected to a spate of robberies in the city.
This follows a tip off that they received from their Blantyre counterparts, indicating that the 5 would be travelling from the commercial capital to Zomba.
When the suspects arrived in Zomba yesterday afternoon, the cops had already set up a trap and trailed them, upon noting that they were following a vehicle which was coming from a bank and heading to Chancellor College.
According to a police report which our reporters has seen, the police then shot at the alleged robbers with the hope of scaring them.
During the clash, a stray bullet hit one of the officers who died as they were taking him to Zomba Central Hospital.
