Barely a week after Mangochi Police confiscated 39 Kabaza bicycles for contravening traffic regulations, officers in the same district have impounded 39 motor vehicles and 35 motorcycles for violating the Road Traffic Act.
The impoundment was done during a joint traffic enforcement exercise conducted on January 17, 2026, between 17:00 hours and 22:00 hours, along all major roads of the Township involving officers from the Traffic Section, General Duties, and Police Mobile Service led by the Station Officer, Senior Superintendent Clement Mulera.
Officers were strategically deployed at designated points to ensure compliance with road safety requirements by all road users.

The stated hours are prone to increased traffic violations by motorists and motorcyclists exposing other road users to danger.
Some of the offences that led to the impoundment include operating uninsured motor vehicles and motorcycles, lack of road service permits, exceeding carrying capacity, operating unregistered vehicles, driving without a valid licence, overspeeding, and riding motorcycles without crash helmets.
All offenders will be fined in accordance with the nature of their offences, as provided for under the Road Traffic Act.
The operation will continue as part of ongoing efforts to restore sanity on the roads in the district.

Meanwhile, Police in the district are warning all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations in order to prevent road accidents and loss of life.
