Police in Ntcheu have on Wednesday, November 14, 2022 arrested five Ntcheu Secondary School students for allegedly setting ablaze the school cafeteria.
The incident occurred during the night of Monday, November 14, 2022 at around 23:00hrs.
It is alleged that during this particular night, a 19 year-old form four student, Frank Chumbi and his accomplices who are minors, mobilised themselves and torched the cafe following the expulsion of their fellow student from the school.
It is further alleged that the students used sanitizer to facilitate the combustion, leading to the burning of the cafe that contained assorted items including old mattresses.

The matter was reported to Police and through intelligence collection, the five have been arrested and confessed to have conducted the offence.
Frank Chumbi and his colleagues will appear in court soon to answer a charge of Arson which contravenes section 337 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Police in the district bemoans the conduct of vandalising school property. Whenever a misunderstanding arises, students should follow proper procedure and seek advice and clarification from relevant authorities instead of resorting to vandalism since it hinders development.
