The Committee Chairperson for Parliamentary Committee on Education, Brainex Kaise has confirmed with avantmalawi on possible discussion to engage Teacher’s Union of Malawi to make amends on Teacher’s grievances on Covid19 risk allowances.
This comes after TUM has given government seven day notice to resume a teacher’s nationwide stay away after authorities rejected it’s proposal on risk allowances.
However, the Parliamentary Committee did not disclose the exact dates to which the meeting will be called.
Earlier, this morning on Kwagwanji program, Times group emphasized the need for government to honor its promises to Teacher’s.
Parents and guardians are piling pressure on the authorities to intervene in order to avert a stay-away by the Teachers Union of Malawi-TUM insisting the right to education of students in public schools are being violated.
Some quarters have blamed government for earlier including the teachers on the list of the essential workers that are provided with Covid 19 risk allowances.
Meanwhile;
Co-Chairperson of the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 Wilfred Chalamira Nkhoma emphasizes that since the procurement of materials for addressing Covid-19 response are managed through standard government procurement and financial accountability procedures, the taskforce has no power to support the provision of cash-costed packages for the teachers.
