The Parliamentary Committee on Public Appointments has recommended to President Lazarus Chakwera to fire all Mec commissioners who presided over the 2019 presidential election.
The committee was meeting to answer some of the concerns which former President Peter Mutharika raised in refusing to fire the commissioners.
Among others Mutharika argued that the commissioners were not given a chance to be represented by their lawyers when the committee summoned them over their competency.
Speaking to journalists, Joyce Chitsulo , Chairperson of Pac said the committee met and has maintained its earlier recommendation that the president should fire all the commissioners who presided over the 2019 presidential election.
Currently it is Linda Kunje and Jean Mathanga who are still exercising their duties after their re-appoinment by Mutharika.
Meanwhile, opposition DPP has expressed worry over how government is treating Kunje and Mathanga.
The two commissioners were sworn in on 7th June 2020 and their immediate task was to preside over the fresh June 23 presidential polls.
And in a statement signed by Brown Mpinganjira DPP spokesperson, if government feels that the commissioners are performing their duties illegally , then it should nullify all the elections which they have participated in starting with the fresh presidential polls.
He has further accused government of not respecting the law by ignoring the advise by attorney general to offer employment letters to the two commissioners.
