Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Hon John Bande has today disclosed that Nsanje North Constituency, especially Fatima and some surrounding areas will soon access clean and pipe water for human consumption.
The remarks were made during today’s (August 2, 2022) parliamentary session in response to the constituency’s parliamentarian Hon Enock Chizuzu.
The Water Minister added that Southern Region Water Board is currently laying pipes from Thekerani in Thyolo district heading Fatima in Nsanje district.
The constituency has over the decades getting water from boreholes, rivers and unprotected wells which mostly risked their lives due to waterborne diseases such as cholera.
In reaction to this exercise, parliamentarian Chizuzu thanked the Tonse Alliance administration headed by State President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his Vice Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima as well as all Tonse partners.
“Such a development is worthy jubilation considering the fact that our water in Nsanje North is salty and unhygienic. However, I appreciate the remarkable development from the Minister of water and sanitation Hon Abida Mia for putting together efforts in making sure Nsanje North constituency has safe water.” Said Chizuzu
The Minister of water and sanitation is set to launch the development soon after Parliament seating, and residents will surely benefit free connections at a low consumption fee.
