The Northern Region Football Coaches Committee (NRFCC) has commended the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for promoting inclusive and decentralized football development.
According to a statement signed by NRFCC General Secretary Steven A. Nkwinika, the Committee hailed FAM’s recent talent identification exercise and U-20 national team selection process.
The statement says the talent identification exercise covered all districts in the Northern Region, with 32 boys and girls progressing to national level for the Luwinga Inclusive Academy.
On U-20 selection, the statement indicates that 23 players from the Northern Region attended regional trials ahead of COSAFA competitions. 15 of them were selected for the national camp, up from only one player in the previous squad.
The statement adds that players were identified from across the region, including Chitipa and for the first time, Likoma.
NRFCC said the developments show the transformation agenda in Malawian football is progressing. It added that sustaining such processes will help discover talent from every part of the country.
The Committee has since urged FAM to continue distributing opportunities across all districts to grow Malawi’s football talent base.
Meanwhile, the Committee has congratulated Coach Lovemore Fazili and the technical panel for their performance at the just-ended WAFCON.
