UNIMA’s School of Excellence has long faced a shortage of study desks, but this challenge may soon be eased following a generous donation from NICO Group.
The donation comes as part of NICO Group’s ongoing commitment to supporting education and improving learning conditions in Malawi.
NICO’s Head of Commercial, Taweni Gondwe Xaba, said the company decided to assist the school because it is dedicated to promoting educational development across the country.
“UNIMA is one of the country’s leading schools that has nurtured countless students, and that is why we chose to support them when they reached out for help,” Xaba added.

Martin Matululu, the principal of UNIMA, expressed gratitude to NICO for the donation, noting that the school has struggled for years with insufficient desks and chairs.
The donation includes both desks and chairs, providing students with a more conducive environment for learning and study.
Student leader Yatuta Mulungu highlighted that proper study facilities are essential for academic success, helping students focus and perform better in their studies.

The donated items, valued at K97 million, are expected to benefit thousands of students, as UNIMA admits at least 15,000 learners each year across various programs.
