NICE TRUST HOLD AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION WITH JOURNALISTS IN MANGOCHI

The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust has urged Mangochi based journalists to help the trust to provide civil education to the communities and enhance democracy and good governance in Malawi.

The media session was held on thursday,23rd May,2023 at Mangochi NICE Trust hall and was organized by the Trust for journalists from various media houses within Mangochi district.

The aim of the training session was to engage and familiarize the journalists with NICE Trust’s operations and also establishing a good seinage with the media ahead of forthcoming general elections.

Speaking to the media Joseph Chamambala,executive officer for NICE Trust responsible for Mangochi said that the mandate of NICE Trust is to provide civil Education in partial manner and enhance democracy good governance,hence organised this media session to familiarize the media with our projects,like Boma Lathu Initiative that works much in transforming the thinking of community and encourage full participation of youth and women in electoral process

“The training is aimed to establish a good seinage with media so that the media should be able to identify critical issues that are on ground related to governance and democracy and also call the media to assist the Trust to have the transformative kind of educating the communities mainly women and the youth to take part in electoral processes” lamented Chamambala

In compliment,one of the participants Bishop Witmos,the Mangochi District Information Officer was so thankful for the training and echoed out that the relationship has been strengthened and media promised to mobalize the youth and women to participate in forthcoming general elections even taking into account the unfinished projects through investigative journalism.

Apart from being familiar with NICE Trust’s operations,the journalists were also drilled in investigative journalism skills and Access to Information as one way of developing a cadre of journalists who can come up with investigative complex and uncover untold stories of unfinished projects as far as transparency and accountability is concerned.
