Ngoni Culture pretex affect education- Authorities

Mmbelwa District Education Authorities in Mzimba have singled out beer drinking among teachers in primary schools in the district on the pretext of Ngoni culture as being one of the setbacks contributing to poor performance of learners in primary schools.

This was disclosed by Mmbelwa district council director of education youth and sports, Fides Msowoya on Saturday during an engagement meeting organized by the Mzimba Heritage Association.

Msowoya disclosed that among others, 16000 learners have dropped out school in the district where some have migrated to South Africa or have gotten married.

The Secretary general for Mzimba Heritage Association, Moses Mkandawire says they are also disappointed with dwindling standards of education in the district, a development which has necessitated a number of initiatives with various stakeholders on how the trends can be reversed.
