NENO ROAD TO UNDERGO SCIENTIFIC TEST

From now on all roads will be tested before handing them over to the government, Minister of Transport and Public Works Jacob Hara has said.

He said this after conducting a meeting with one of the contractors for a segment on Neno Road, China Geo and the Roads Authority.

“I don’t know why previously roads weren’t being tested yet the Central Materials Lab has a machine called Deflectometer which tests all the road layers to ascertain good standards,” He said.

Hara says when a road project proves to be below standard after testing, the matter will be treated as a criminal.

This he said will be done to stop the tendency of defrauding Malawians through road projects.

He has assured that parts of the road to Neno that were not properly constructed by another contractor in the previous administration will be redone.

China Geo has not yet constructed its allocated segment and has pledged to deliver first-class tarmac road on its 20-kilometre section from Neno Boma to Ligowe.
