Brief facts are that there was information from D/S/Insp Kanjo that motor vehicle BU 9615 MIRA white in colour is believed to be transporting Ivory. The vehicle was spotted within Mzuzu City but sped off after noticing police officers that were following it.
Later all Roadblocks were informed and the vehicle was seen approaching Dunduzu Roadblock. The traffic officer who was on duty stopped it but the driver instantly made reverse driving very fast and later turn to a dusty road.
This prompted the other officers that were on duty to fire bullets but the vehicle did not stop. As the officers were still following it while firing bullets, one bullet entered the back of the vehicle through the back seat and through the drivers seat and hit the driver at the back.
This prompted all the three occupants to abandon the vehicle and when police officers reached where the vehicle was abandoned, they just noted blood stains on drivers seat.
Later the owner of the vehicle came with police officers from Bwengu saying they are following the said vehicle. With communication from the vehicle owner, the driver came from the bush having sustained a gunshot wound at the back and was taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital where he is admitted. But the owner of the vehicle said the one injured is not his driver but the one who fled with the other passenger is his driver. So far they managed to go away with the said ivory.
