Some angry Muslims in Makanjira- Mangochi have today burnt a church and destroyed property belonging to a pastor for Emmanuel Mission Church.
Eye witnesses say the fracas begun around midday after the Muslim community accused the pastor of drawing an illustration they find to be offensive being referred to as ‘God for Muslims’.
Both Mangochi Muslim Association of Malawi chairperson, Sheikh Fahad Kamsuli and Mangochi police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi have confirmed the incident.
According to Kamsuli, the issue started some days ago and they agreed with other local leaders that a member of the Church who is said to have drawn the pictures should come to tell his story and apologize. The community even offered money for the man to travel to Mangochi from Mchinji where he lives.
But Kamsuli was quick to say what has happened its out of anger from the group and not necessarily the position of the association.
