This partnership is seen as a significant boost for basketball development in the Northern Region.
Mumba’s sponsorship commitment amounts to K45 million for the next three seasons, with K15 million allocated for each season. This represents a substantial increase from previous years, where the sponsorship stood at K7 million. The increase reflects Mumba’s dedication to elevating the league’s standards and long-term growth.
During the signing ceremony, Mumba shared his motivation for supporting NOZOBAL. He explained that he saw basketball as a way to keep the youth engaged in positive activities, helping them avoid destructive behaviors and making a positive impact in their communities.
In addition to the financial support, Mumba pledged to purchase land in Mzuzu dedicated to constructing a basketball court. This gesture aims to provide a quality venue for games and training, further strengthening the sport’s foundation in the region.
Isaac Ndemela, the General Secretary of NOZOBAL, expressed gratitude for the sponsorship. He noted that securing sponsorship has been a challenge in recent years, and this partnership marks a turning point for the league. Ndemela also assured that there will be full transparency and accountability in handling the sponsorship funds.
Ndemela further expressed excitement over the news that Mumba plans to purchase land for a basketball court. He emphasized how this would be a game-changer for the league, as a dedicated court would enhance training and competition facilities.
The General Secretary of the Basketball Association of Malawi (BASMAL), Peter Gomani, also shared his appreciation for Mumba’s support. He highlighted that BASMAL is looking forward to providing technical assistance and guidance to ensure the sponsorship is utilized effectively.
With this sponsorship, NOZOBAL is poised for growth, and the basketball community in Northern Malawi is enthusiastic about what the future holds for the league and its young players. The official league launch, set for November 10, promises to be a momentous event for all involved.
