A 3-year old minor who went missing for 2 days has been found floating in a septic tank within his parents compound on July 5, 2022 in Mangochi.
The deceased has been identified as Blessing Kanyenda from Mgundaphiri Village Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
According to police findings, Blessings went missing on the evening of Sunday July 3, 2022 when his mother who was busy with house chores thought that the minor went out to play with friends.
The parents to the deceased were astonished with their son’s disappearance who searched for him until on July 5, 2022 when his body was found floating in the septic tank.
The matter was reported at Mangochi Police Station who visited the scene along with medical personnel and suffocation has been indicated as the cause of the death.
The police discovered that the septic tank was covered with a hand made bamboo tree cover which have been rotten. It is also believed that the minor stepped accidentally on it while playing around hence drowned into the septic tank.
Meanwhile police in the district are appealing to parents and guardians to cover their tanks with strong lids and not to leave their young children unattended since they need parental care, guidance and close supervision.
