The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has elevated Harris Potani to be its acting Chief Elections Officer following the resignation of Sam Alfandika who pressed an exit button few weeks ago.
MEC announced the decision through a press release which has been signed by its chairperson Justice Dr Chifundo Kachale.
“MEC is informing all stakeholders that it has appointed Mr. Harris Potani as Acting Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect,” Reads part of the statement.
Adding “The Commission is inviting all stakeholders to render the necessary support to Mr. Potani as he leads the Secretariat in the meantime as modalities to feel position substantially are underway.”
Potani is the Deputy Chief Elections Officer responsible for Operation and has been working for the electoral body for the past 21 years.
He has risen through the ranks to his current position.
His predecessor Sam Alfandika has since secured an international job.
