Mangochi Police delighted with Unicaf University’s scholarships scheme

At least 35 police officers from Mangochi Police Station and its lower formations are delighted with Unicaf University’s scholarship scheme meant for the Police.

This follows the meeting conducted by the University through National Police Headquarters.

The meeting which took place on Monday November 22, 2021 at Mangochi Town Council Conference Hall aimed at illustrating to the officers the Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) between MPS and Unicaf University which was signed in October 2021 by the Deputy Inspector General of Police responsible for Administration, Merlyn Yolamu.

Among others, the two bodies agreed that MPS members, spouses and children can pursue studies at the University by paying 5% of the tution fees.

According to the MPS training policy, it only allows its members to attend programs and schools which are accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

Speaking to the officers, Chancellor for the University, Prof. Kuthemba Mwale stated that the MoU will help MPS members to upgrade their studies through online method which balances work and studies.

Mwale added that Unicaf University is the leading academic institution accredited locally by NCHE and internationally by the British Accreditation Council (BAC), adding that the main purpose of the MoU is to reduce the gap and produce more graduates in the Service.

Echoing the same, Dr. Golden Banda, Unicaf University’s Director of Marketing and Business Development alluded that online studies reduce international fees and is an effective means of learning, hence encouraged officers to enroll.

“The University offers Virtual Learning Education (VLE) to carter time and costs which is good to people who are employed,” added Banda.

In her remarks, the Station Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Violet Kamwendo thanked Unicaf University officials through the lnspector General of Police for recommending Mangochi Police Station on the list of formations which has been oriented on the scheme.

Kamwendo also encouraged her subordinates to enroll for further studies in order to increase chances and opportunities in the Service when academic qualifications tend to be one of the prerequisite requirements.

Unicaf University has scheduled to offer new programs in 2022 including security studies.
