Malawi Ranked Top Mango Producer in Africa

A 2024 study by the World Unfolds has ranked Malawi as the top mango producer in Africa and the seventh largest in the world. According to the study, Malawi produces 1.7 million tons of mangoes annually, with the season running from October to March.

Malawi competes with leading mango-producing countries such as India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Mexico, and Brazil, which occupy the top six positions.

Patrick Botha, spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade and Industry, mentioned that currently, mangoes are exported in pulp form by a single company and urged the private sector to engage in this subsector.

Economist Edward Chilima emphasized the need for research and investment in technologies to enhance mango quality and attract more markets.
