Malawi Police Incinerate 260 Bags worthy Indian hemp

In a coordinated effort, the Malawi Police, in collaboration with various stakeholders, conducted the burning of 260 bags of cannabis sativa (locally known as “chamba”) in Lilongwe.

Each of these 260 bags weighed a minimum of 70 kilograms, resulting in the destruction of over 18,000 kilograms of this illegal drug.

According to Hastings Chigalu, the Lilongwe Police Spokesperson, this operation was carried out in compliance with a High Court order, which granted permission for the disposal of the seized narcotics following the completion of the necessary legal procedures.

Among the 260 bags that were incinerated, a significant portion—240 bags, to be exact—had been confiscated by the police after intercepting a fuel tanker loaded with cannabis sativa in February of the previous year.
