In a shear display of its committiment to curb road accidents within Kawale policing area, the Station has on April 25, 2025 met Kabaza operators to fine tune them on the best practices whenever using public roads.
This call follows a recent report released by the Station’s Research and Planning branch that revealed an increase in road accidents by 47% within the past three months mostly affecting Kabaza operators who are not skilled to use public roads.
The meeting which was organized by Kawale Community Policing branch was held at Masintha Ground which attracted over 250 riders from Area 24, Area 23 and Kawale.
During the meeting, the Officer In-Charge, Mr Davie Chilalire Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) extended the invitation to Road Traffic Department and Kamuzu Central Hospital .
Going by the report, it has shown that kabaza operators are the most vulnerable road users hence targeting them with road safety tips.
In his opening remarks, Mr Davie Chilalire urged Kabaza operators to take responsibility in the drive to reduce road accidents while Superintendent Getrude Chonzi head of dectives (SCIO) bang the bell on reporting criminal activities to police.
Addressing Motor Bikers, Traffic Inspector Ralph Chabwera and Road Traffic Officer Gomezgani Gondwe concurred in most of their sentiments that dwelt much on road safety tips, the importance of insurance and the best practices to be done during road accidents.
The Road Traffic officers further explained about the deliberate price waiver that aims at helping out kabaza operators have licences and registration of motor cycles at low cost .
The emphasis was put on operating with road worthy motorcycles and be riders who are legally authorized.
Kawale Community Policing Coordinator Inspector Mayeso Chikadza took advantage of the gathering to address issues of Gender based violence, defilement cases, suicide and mob justice.
Inspector Mayeso Chikadza lamented the upsurge of defilement cases affecting middle aged men, as a thing that needs to be addressed.
Representing his colleagues Kondwani Kamaliza Chairperson for Kabaza operators in Kawale Zone made an extension on defilement cases perpetrated by Kabaza daily cash inflow as worriesome and asked his fellows to guard it jealously.
He further extended his gratitude to Kawale Police and road traffic department for the tips shared and promised to make good use of the information gained and make sure that there is adherence going forward .
