Police in Kawale has on April 5, 2025 warned Area 24 communities against political violence as we approach closer to campaign period.
Setting the tempo at Mtsinje football Ground, police organized a football bonanza where four teams battled for the championship while using the tool to raise awareness against political violence.
In a rarely setup, the bonanza drew members and local leaders of different political parties including DPP, MCP, UDF and UTM. Also present was Minister of Foreign Affairs who is also the Member of Parliament for the area, Honorable Nancy Tembo.
Kawale Police Officer-In-Charge Mr Davie Chilalire Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), in his keynote address warned the communities against political violence during the election process. He therefore urged all party leaders and followers to embrace the spirit of football supporters that dine together despite their allegiance to different clubs.
The OC highlighted that in any competition there is only one winner as demonstrated by the bonanza, let’s learn to accept the outcome.
In her speech, Honorable Nancy Tembo, MP joined by other local party leaders preached peace during campaign period and after the election results announcement.
“Let’s say no to political violence, if grieved by election results follow the right judicial process we are all Malawians despite our party colours” Said Tembo.
The Boys, team from Ngwenya, Area 24 beat Ajax 2:1 to emerge as champions.
An official from UNDP, the biggest elections stakeholders were also in attendance.
