Kawale Police Station through its community policing branch on August 12, 2021 met the matron at Kamuzu Central Hospital together with officials from social welfare.
The meeting was to appreciate the development of the baby who was rescued in a toilet after unknown mother dumped her and ensuring that social welfare department takes full charge in finding possible alternatives should the mother-hunt proved futile.
Watson Kumwenda,a 36 year old matron at Ethel Mutharika nursery ward assured the team that the baby is in good health without any complication and is growing stronger.
Kawale Police child protection officer, Sergeant Naomi Mwakawanga expressed gratitude seeing the wonderful work done by the nurses towards the survival of the baby, now named Chisomo Watson, taking first names of the one who brought the baby to the hospital and of the matron.
“I am proud of you all nurses and l believe that as we are working out to locate the mother or find a possible replacement of the mother through social welfare, you continue to stand in the gap,” said Mwakawanga.

Meanwhile, collaborative efforts are being made with the community to trace the mother of the baby.
