Avantmalawi reporters on the ground managed to visit katchini bridge in Wovwe Karonga District which was washed away by floods some time back.
Reports gathered shows that it has taken over a year since the residents are failing to connect to the other side of the river for example learners are facing much difficulties to go to Phapa primary school as they have to pass through the river in this rainy season. And all other people are also failing to connect to the nearest trading centre due to the same problem.
We managed to Talk to some of surrounding commuters who blames the government for not committing and renovate the bridge for over a year now. They indicated that a contractor came and left as he can not afford to work while the water levels are still high.
“It’s really pathetic to note that we are suffering like this, we thought the bridge could not take all this time to be maintained. For example, the Kyungu Bridge which was washed away last week took just a day to be attended to by the Chinese company, why us? Is our case different?” Commented one of the villgers.
The bride is just about 1.5km away from the M1 road soon after Wovwe Drimp Trading Centre, a 7km road with two bridges, namely Phapa and Katchini, whose member of Parliment is Hon Kenneth Ndovi.

Reports indicates the road which connects the two bridges to the M1 road is in dire state and needs maintenance if the roads authority takes note of the concern.
“Much as movement of people has been affected, prices of goods have also sky rocketed since vendors faces difficulties in travelling.” He added.
“Our member of Parliment has tried his level best but we are failing to understand why we can’t have a better contractor to assist us timely.” He added
