Mzuzu City Hammers Football Club has signed a landmark one-year sponsorship deal worth K40 million with Kansai Plascon Malawi. The agreement marks a significant milestone for the club, which has been operating without a sponsor for some time.
The partnership was officially launched on Friday, 25th April 2025, at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel during a colourful event attended by various dignitaries and stakeholders from the football fraternity.
Speaking during the launch, Yotam Katumbi, Managing Director of Kansai Plascon Malawi, revealed that in addition to the K40 million sponsorship, Plascon will also be sponsoring the “Man of the Match” award for each game played by Mzuzu City Hammers.

Katumbi urged the players to remain committed to the club and not be easily lured away by offers from other teams. He emphasized that unity and loyalty are key to the club’s success and future development.
In his remarks, the Mayor of Mzuzu City, Kondwani Nyasulu, who served as Guest of Honour, expressed gratitude to Plascon for their generous gesture in supporting the team. He noted that the sponsorship comes at a crucial time when the club lacked financial backing.
Mayor Nyasulu further appealed to other companies and members of the corporate world to extend their support, not only to the men’s team but also to the Mzuzu City Hammers women’s football team, which currently has no sponsorship.
Gift Mkandawire, the Patron of Mzuzu City Hammers FC, described the partnership with Plascon as a significant achievement that will help the team grow. He noted that the collaboration represents a turning point in the club’s journey.

Mkandawire also highlighted the importance of attracting multiple sponsors, stressing that it is difficult to retain players without financial support. He expressed confidence that the new sponsorship will help keep the team united and more competitive.
