GATE COLLECTIONS FORCE TEAMS TO ABANDON MZUZU STADIUM

(By Vinjeru Ngwira)

The Lions of Kaning’ina Moyale Barracks FC are in plans quitting Mzuzu Stadium following the unsatisfactory gate collections from recent events.

The soldiers of Moyale opt using Mzimba Stadium as their home ground, whereas Mberwa district council is still renovating the stadium.

The development comes barely months after Ekwendeni Hammers FC also abandoned Mzuzu Stadium on the same grounds and opted shifting for Rumphi Stadium as their home ground, in anticipation that gate collections will improve.

On our records, the previous Mzuzu derby grossed K380 thousand, earning the teams K64 thousand respectively.

Some football lovers, players and even officials are concluding that football is less profitable in Malawi since teams expenses are high as compared to revenues.
