“EMPOWERING MALAWI’S FURNITURE INDUSTRY BM SOFA DESIGNS LAUNCHED IN LILONGWE”

Today, on the 1st of August 2023, Hon. Vera Kamtukule, Minister of Labour, presided over the official launch of BM Sofa Designs’ furniture showroom in Area A49, Lilongwe.

During her speech at the launch, the minister encouraged fellow Malawians to support local products instead of importing costly chairs. She also highlighted that BM Sofa Designs, with its head office in Mzuzu and 151 employees, aligns with Vision 2063’s goal to combat unemployment in Malawi.

In an interview with our reporter, Dr. Peter Kasewe, the managing director of BM Sofa Designs, expressed plans to expand with branches in Zomba, Blantyre, and other districts. He urged Malawians to show their support by choosing BM Sofa Designs for high-quality furniture at an affordable price.

Founded in 2002 and officially registered in 2017, BM Sofa Designs’ Lilongwe branch will employ 140 individuals. Dr. Kasewe emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, as they possess one hundred and ninety-hectare land covered with trees that will be used in the manufacturing process of their products.

Notably, the superior quality of BM Sofa Designs’ products rivals those imported from abroad, such as China. Dr. Peter Kasewe proudly emphasized that their sofas meet international standards and are crafted with precision and attention to detail, ensuring customers get furniture of unparalleled quality right from their local market. By providing products comparable to foreign imports, BM Sofa Designs aims to elevate the standards of the furniture industry in Malawi and promote a sense of pride in supporting local craftsmanship.
