Electricity tariffs adjusted in Malawi

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has approve electricity tariff adjustment from K94.43 per Kilowatt per hour (kwh) to K104. 46 per Kilowatt per hour.

The adjustment is effective tomorrow March 30, 2021.

Speaking to journalists in Lilongwe, MERA Publicist Fitina Khonje said the board has approved the price adjustment to allow the Electricity Supply Commission of Malawi (ESCOM) to carry out its functions effectively.

Khonje added that some economic fundamentals such as depreciation of Malawi Kwacha against the US Dollar and the rise in Consumer Price Index (CPI) have necessitated the upward adjustment to the tariff.
