Commander of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), General Vincent Nundwe, has received an award as an Africa Peace and Security Leader of the year 2020 awarded by the African Leadership Magazine for his role the MDF played during the 2020 anti-government demonstrations.
The award is a recognition of General Nundwe’s contributions to Africa and visible strides in the security of lives and properties across the continent.
“As the commander of MDF, those who nominated me found it that it was unique for the military to side with the demonstrators. Usually the military sides with the government, but we were looked at as siding with the demonstrators,” said Nundwe.
General Nundwe has further told Times that the recognition serves as a reminder to MDF officers that they can perform their duties without being “pressurized” by other sectors.
