CHILIMA’s CASE THROWN TO FINANCIAL CRIMES COURT. SIX COUNTS ON VP’s NECK

Vice President Saulos Chilima has been charged with Six counts bordering on Corrupt practices by public Officer, advantage for using influence in regard to contracts and failing to make a full report to officers of the Bureau.

This is in relation to Business person Zunneth Sattar’s corruption scandal where Chilima is accused of Corruptly receiving US$280, 000 from Zunneth Sattar and US$19 million for assisting Sattar’s company to get a contract from Malawi Defense Force and Malawi Police Service.

Lawyer representing Chilima, George Mtchuka Mwale is now applying for bail describing his client as innocent until proven otherwise.

He says, Chilima should be released on bail since he is not a flight risk considering the position he holds.

The ACB has not objected to the bal application saying Chilima cannot indeed escape bail.

However, the bureau wants the matter to be committed to the Financial Crimes Court.
