BLANTYRE CITY COUNCIL EMBARKS ON ROADS UPGRADE

Blantyre City Council has rolled out an ambitious project aimed at lifting the face of the city through standard road networks.

Through the project, the city council seeks to upgrade and rehabilitate city roads to ease mobility challenges as well as construct drainage structures.

Speaking after the launch of the project, deputy Minister of Local Government Halima Daudi commended the council for the initiative.

However, the deputy Minister warned against substandard work and called on the council to closely monitor progress of the project in all the earmarked areas.

One legislator whose area will benefit from the project is Noel Lipipa. He observed that the upgrading and rehabilitation of the city roads in Blantyre is a step towards easing transportation challenges among residents.

Mayor for Blantyre City, Wild Ndipo, told the press that the project is being implemented with funding from Roads Fund Administration at a total project cost of K2 billion.

Roads selected for the project are Kapeni – Mahatma Gandhi, North Road Market Street in Limbe and Chilobwe-Stella Maris. The projects are expected to be completed within eight months.
