Bishop for the Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire, Brighton Malasa has resigned.
His resignation follows intense pressure from congregants for poor management, maladministration and irregularities in the diocese.
The Anglican Diocesan Standing Committee has been meeting since yesterday. Archbishop of the Central Africa Province Albert Chama is also in attendance.
One of the members of the committee said the house heard and presented issues against Bishop Malasa on how he has run the diocese over the years.
“Because of pressure and evidence presented, he has thrown in the towel and said enough is enough. He has resigned. The diocese is yet to make a formal statement on the resignation this Sunday. The church will follow all procedures and have a new bishop in place,” disclosed the source who opted for anonymity.
In an interview with this publication, some members of the church further said they welcome the resignation and thank God for this stage after tussling with the bishop for a long period. At one time the members of the church took to the streets demanding the ouster of the bishop.
“It is a dream come true. May God be praised. What used to happen put the reputation of the Anglican Church in disrepute. This is good riddance.” Sam Chilima from St George Anglican Church said.
