AN AMAZING POLICE OFFICER OF KASUNGU SGT RICHARD MALIWU

Gwendolyn Brooks once said” We are each other’s harvest; we are each other’s business; we are each other’s magnitude and bond,” end of quote. Despite who we are and what we do, we can always make a difference and make this World a better place to be by reaching out to the needy.

Here is the story of SGT.Richard Maliwu No B3317 working at Kasungu Police Station under Community Policing Services Branch.

Despite him being a junior officer, second from the very junior rank in the Malawi Police Service to be specific, he realised his potential and the guy has championed an initiative of building a MK1, Million house through an initiative called Support Agness Foundation ( Well Wishers Initiative) who is from Gumbo village Traditional Authority Mwase in Kasungu district.

Agness is 10 years old and stays with her grandmother together with her five siblings with an elder brother who is aged 14 who was selling bananas.

Sgt Maliwu together with Sgt Alfred Nkhani intercepted Agnes on August 28th, 2020 around Kasungu township while discharging their duties.

After some follow ups, on the 31st August 2020 they found out that her family is a needy one after informing the Social Welfare office and recommended that the family needs urgent attention.

On humanitarian grounds, Sgt Maliwu created a whatsap group as a calling of rendering assistance to Agnes Family and it happened.

He and some friends started contributing and they firstly visited the family with some basic needs like bags of maize, Soap, Rice and other necessities as they realized that they depend on Agness and her elder brother to be feeding the family with the profits they were making out of selling water and bananas.

Through the whatsap group, Sgt Maliwu and his team have managed to build a better house for the family which was handed over to them on February 24th, 2021.

It was handed over in the presence of Social Welfare workers, GVH Gumbo, GVH Mandevu and representative of Traditional Authority Mwase who was the guest of honour.

In his remarks, GVH Mandevu commended the group for the initiative saying it will act as an eye opener to all people who feel like helping others goes in hand in hand with having bount resources as he urged other to emulate and help other 10 needy elderly people who are staying with their Grandchildren.

In his remarks, Sgt Maliwu applauded his team for the job well done despite some challenges in lobbying for funds for the project.

“I have been assisted by others to be where iam today that’s why I thought it’s important for me to play a role in helping others too as one day I shall need others to assist at least not me but my relatives,” Said Maliwu.

One Great thinker once said, ” Be good to people, you will be remembered more for your kindness than any level of success you would possibly attain.
